Week 4 - Sculpting

On friday Michael and I went to the life drawing room to look for the sculpture that I had been working on wednesday or thursday(I think), sadly the sculpture was no longer there and we couldn't find it, I want to believe that it got teleported to another universe and someone else is trying to finish sculpting it :) .

So we told Keat about this situation and he gave me some clay to take home and work on a new one. Sadly with so little time to work on it and no clay sculpting skills I couldn't finish it and I couldn't get it looking good either (it was quite frustrating and annoying).

Cinematic - Week 4

during this week I didn't have much to do since Matt and I finished the storyboard on tuesday, meaning that I had to wait for the turn arounds to be finished before I could start 3d modelling, but during that spare time that I had, I did quite some research about working with Maya and Mudbox as well as some after effects tutorials.

On tuesday Michael began working on the concept for the synth lord, he did some concepts based around the concept that Rhys came up with last week. I gave Michael some feedback on what he needed to do to make it look more physically appealing because I thought it was looking too plain, on friday I told Michael that I was gonna try to come up with a design for it(based around Rhys's concept) Because I had an idea on my mind about how to make it look "cooler".

We then had another meeting with Dane and Keat, we got some good feedback and they seemed to like the vibe of the storyboard, they pointed out a few problems with it that we had already figured out and were fixed by Jacob in Animatic.

Dane and Keat gave us really good feedback on how to make our synth lord look better, I took those feedback and came up with this concept that everyone in the team was happy with and would be used in the cinematic.

On thursday and friday we took some photos of the theater room which is the location we'll be using for our cinematic.

The following post goes back to week 2 I believe, this is the early stage of the storyboard. These are really rough drawings that Matt and I came up with for the storyboard, a lot of these drawing were later used, others were fixed.

Week 3 - Pre - Production

We are in the Pre - Production stage of our group projects. On monday everyone did some research about the style we want for our scene, we had some really interesting and good ideas that helped us define our cinematic's style much more.

On Tuesday Matt and I started working on the storyboard. We began by figuring out the type of shots we wanted to do and draw really rough sketches on paper, Matt knows a lot about film studies and camera shots so he came up with a variety of different shots that I believe will work great once we start filming and animating, I also came up with a few shots of my own that were approved by Matt.
We were constantly receiving feedback from Michael and Jacob which made the whole storyboard process a bit easier.

One of the problems we had that we managed to fix pretty early in the storyboard process was that we broke the 180 rule(Noooooooo!!!) luckily Matt noticed this and told me about it, we fixed it in a few minutes, after that we kept working and came up with more ideas for some of the shots.

On Thursday while I was doing the actual storyboard drawings in photoshop, Matt would be working on the final shots (we would constantly ask and give each other feedback or opinions on the piece we were each working on) and drawing really rough sketches on paper that he would hand to me once he was done drawing them. By the end of class on thursday we had already finished the storyboard's rough sketches and all that's left is to draw them in photoshop.

I really feel that Matt and I worked really well together in this storyboard process, I find it super easy to understand his ideas and the types of camera shots that he's thinking of using, making it easier for me to draw it.

Production Schedule in its Final Form!!

When we started working out on our production schedule we didn't even think of doing it individually, we gathered together and started off by hearing everyone's personal preferences on what roles each one wanted to do and how everyone felt about it.

In the end we came to a democratic agreement where everyone was/is happy with the production schedule that we established. The only change is that I decided not to work on the animatic and focus mainly in modelling, as head of 3D I want to have as much time as i can to work on the models and help everyone else, everyone in the team agreed on this decision .

This is what Our final production schedule looks like:

Cinematic Story/Script

Today we decided to chose the story idea for our cinematic project. We decided to have each of us voting for the one we liked the most(you can;t chose your own one obviously), and in the end it was a tie between mine and Rhys's story.

In the end we decided to combine both stories and we came up with an even better one.
Each one has to come up with a log line and script for this new story which we will share tomorrow after class.

My Story/Script based on mine and Rhys's story.

Human =  Character A
Robot   =  Robot

Character A is sitting in his office watching the news on his laptop.

The screen shows some static going on and suddenly a Robot appears in the middle of the screen.

Robot: It's time for us machines to rule!!!

Character A is confused and scare so he closes his laptop.

Then right next to his desk the Robot appears like coming down from the sky/rooftop.

Character A yells "what do you want?!!!!"
and the Robot replies " It's time for us machines to rule!!

The robot attacks the human with a laser beam causing him to fall unconsciously on his desk.

The camera shakes and we can hear explosions and noise.

Through the window we can see a few robot ships flying around the city.

The human wakes up, and rises from his desk but with robotic neon eyes now.

Script Ideas

I have only managed to come up with 1 idea for this assessment so far.

The story that I came up with is the following:

IDEA 1

The MC(main character) is walking down the street, he is on his way to Uni, he stops to play the last level in the fighting game on his phone, when suddenly a magic circle appears right under his feet, the magic circle paralyzes him and teleports him into a 3D platformer game world in which he will face his nemesis(game's boss), they both exchange words before starting their fight. Finish Him!!!

The platform game could be similar to Mortal Kombat, it would allow us to play around with both 2D and 3D and also interact with the animated character.

In the end, it is a platform fighting cinematic, in which a real life person fights a 3D boss, there's lots of blood and special effects.

So I have managed to come up with a few more story ideas for this cinematic project.

IDEA 2

The MC is a real person who has a female robot inside his lab for experimenting(science purposes), this is like an interview between the MC and the robot.

The robot is standing up while the scientist is sitting in a couch asking her questions(AI).

IDEA 3

a robot appears in the middle of the city and is standing at the rooftop of a building, only 1 person sees him and yells, who are you?!!!! and the robot replies with a deep robot voice, I am your Apocalypse!!! then, the robot raises his hands and creates a giant red energy sphere that while is gathering its full power releases small laser beam strikes to the human, the human is trying to avoid those laser beams. Then he looks up to the robot who says, This is the End!!! and throws that giant energy sphere that destroy the entire city...

IDEA 4

The MC(real person) takes the elevator, the elevator gets to the level he wanted to go and he walks out of it, but everything is dark, the lights aren't working and it is foggy. he's walking through the corridors and he hears an evil voice that says "Run or I will catch you", the MC begins to walk faster and as he walks away trying to find an exit, he hears footsteps from behind, the MC hides in one of the rooms, he's breathing quite heavily and is looking at the corner of the corridor, after a few seconds he sees a hand on the wall only for a few seconds. Everything quiets down for some time and the MC decides to come out and runs to the elevator, but when the door opens he finally sees what was following him.

IDEA 5

A man is walking in the forest at night when suddenly a spaceship comes down just ahead of him, the spaceship is floating about 8 meters away from the grounds, when suddenly a light strikes the man and freezes him, the man can not move, and a bright white light is all he can see.

the man wakes up in a room that looks like a laboratory, he is sitting in a metallic futuristic chair with his hands cuffed. An alien being walks into the room and talks to him using telepathy and then shows him a vision/prophecy of what's yet to come.

IDEA 6

In a futuristic world, a human is attacked by a robot, he then wakes up but he isn't the same anymore.

IDEA 7

In a futuristic world, a computer programmer and his robot assistant attempt to bring down the government by hacking into their system and leak certain information about the future of humanity.
Just before they reach the information they were looking for, the programmer is betrayed by his assistant(the robot) who strikes him with a laser energy beam that electrocutes the human, making him fall unconsciously on his desk. The robot receives a call from his human boss who says to him that it is time for the machine to raise. and we can see through the window of the office a lot of laser beams coming down from the sky.

The programmer then wakes up, but he wasn't the same anymore. He now is part human, part AI robot.

ESTABLISHING SHOT -  Of Futuristic city, with buildings and all sorts of new advanced technology.

MID SHOT - Programmer is on his office using his laptop.

PROGRAMMER: A4! it's time to bring down the government. Give me access to its main database.

LONG SHOT - robot(A4) is standing besides his desk.

A4: Understood. Access granted. Entering main database.

LONG SHOT- we can see both the programmer and the robot. camera slowly pans from where the programmer is to where the robot is. (left to right)

PROGRAMMER: Well done A4! I'm almost there. I just need to write a few more lines of code and then......

As the camera pans from left to right, it stops in the middle giving us a 3/4 view of both the programmer and the robot, the robot strikes the programmer with a laser beam, which electrocutes him.

MID SHOT - the programmer is being electrocuted and screams in pain.

PROGRAMMER: AHHHHHH!!!

the programmer falls unconsciously on his desk.

LONG SHOT - Robot get an holographic call from his boss.

BOSS: Well done A4, you have been loyal to me and now it is time for the machine to raise!!

ROBOT: Yes, Father.

CAMERA CUTS INTO A LONG SHOT OF THE CITY - The city is being attack by flying robots and laser beam coming down from the sky.

CAMERA ZOOMS OUT INTO THE PROGRAMMER'S OFFICE .

MID SHOT - Programmer begins to wake up, he opens his eyes but they were altered by the attack and they are now red neon eyes.

The end.
